zoo??

Our pets live through a lot. You can barley see Frank behind the plexi glass. He was lured in with a donut...only to be trapped. Yes, Mr. Steel is wearing a skirt. He is the 'sister' today. This is something only my younger brother can appreciate. Too bad I cant find the picture of Dan. He was decked out in a plaid dress with a white Easter hat. (evil laugh) Oh its SO good to be the older sister.

sports

T-ball is fun. I did not realise that being a sports mom would be enjoyable. Seriously. All I pictured was overprotective mothers dictating to their kids and yelling at the coach. Oh,...and frothing. Basically lots of anger, frustration, and stress. There will be plenty of that in high school, I am sure. Then again I could be wrong about that too.
My girl practices twice a week at the local field. Its only a five minute drive from our house. Greg has been on light duty for more than a month now and so he is home in the evenings and is able to come watch too. She will start playing games next month.
There is such a sense of community. A way to plug into the area, to be a part of this crazy human experience we call life. Not to mention that someone else gets to tell my girl what to do. *sly smile*
Later today we are going to our first free movie at the theatre. Every Wednesday they offer a classic movie on the big screen. This week is Annie Get Your Gun. Next week is Wee Willie Winkie. (Shirley Temple) If they successfully sit through it, I am thinking family tradition.
Life here has been good. My favorite tree is unfolding its amber leaves. The three cherry trees I planted are NOT dead yet and I am planning on buying a couple of climbing vines this next month as Costco. I adore flowers, especially ones that smell nice. My yard is still stumping me-but hey whats new. Little by little its looking more put together.
An unhappy thought is my big old lady. No not my mother!! What kind of readers are you anyway! (jk) My Great Dane is old as dirt as far as big dogs go. She is barrelling toward 10. She is not eating as much and barley gets up to go outside twice a day. This morning I took her for a short walk around the block. She is now comatose at my feet. She has lived a long and good life. I am more concerned with what I am going to get to replace her. Dealing with puppies is not high on the 'fun' list. This is a matter for another time.
Homeschooling is going better that it was. My sons finish in a flash and my girl....is getting better. Perhaps lightened TV restrictions have helped. They get to watch some after they are done. I am still not sure what next year will hold. Its in Gods hands.

getting grubby

Any guesses? I found them while excavating the yard. Not sure what the final result of it is. The kids only like the grubs. Apparently the packaged version is too boring. Hope your day is full of surprises!!

progress

Ignore all the clutter, its a work in progress. I have a few things planted but am not terribly hopeful yet. Its to early and there is just SO much sand to fight. One local lady described it as the sand eating the soil. Its so true. A bag of topsoil literally disappeared in less than a month. Ah well. The more the challenge the greater the potential right?! Press on!

more apriciation

It wasn't more than two weeks ago that I was watching frontier house from netflix. It was a PBS mini-series that followed three families in their journey back in time. I was very interesting to watch, although at times wasn't authentic to the time period due to some drama related circumstances. Leave it to Americans to complain! The historians narrated the entire show, telling how things were and why they chose the materials that they did. It was fascinating.
Flash forward to today. I have been sod busting for nearly a week. Piece by piece I uncover more of my yard and reclaim it from the grass. Those poor settlers...
But oh Mamagriffith, why do you want to get rid of all the grass?
Well to start with It wasn't all nice grass, also I have no lawn mower or anyplace to put it, and finally I have no idea what to do with the yard so the first thing I need to do is have a blank canvas. I still cant see what it will be. Right now I am working my way up from the bottom. The love of flowers is beginning to overwhelm my senses as this year looks more and more like a flower garden year. Flowers are less temperamental anyway.
We have one songbird coming to the porch to get seed. Its a big accomplishment considering we only gather crows and seagulls. I will try to post pics of the progress a little later.
