cleaning house

So let me condense this long car saga...Greg bought me a 1968 VW square back for a second anniversary present. I loved it....but over time loathed it. It ran only for a short time and was trapped in the garage for the majority of the time I owned it. 8 years later this giant metal burden was lifted. I sold it. Yeah, I went too low on the price. After 8 years of sitting on and off I was MORE than ready to see it go and overjoyed to receive cash for said vehicle. I saved the large majority of the money but pulled out a portion in order to buy Birkenstock shoes. Not the ugly kind. The kind that make my horrible feet stop hurting the minute I slide into them. Nothing like getting older to bring about the perspective that liberals aren't the only ones who drive Volvos and wear Birkenstocks. I felt a little sentimental about the car but more relieved...Does anyone else out there have stuff they hang on to and hate, but never get rid of?

best wedding ever

It was small, thrown together in a week, decorated in two hours, and the most touching event to date. Yes even I, mamagriffith, struggled to keep the tears back. Hopefully I will get to blog more about it later when I am not as distracted. P.S. I was the best man. *wink*

one of those days

So in this process to become a "not a pushover" type of person, the one who faces her fears, battles her battles and doesn't shy away from people she doesn't know, I discovered something else. Its Exhausting.
Today I did several things most normal people could call trivial. I went in and talked to the office ladies at the school about enrolling my girl, I signed up my sons for another year of WAVA, and drum roll please....I went over and confronted the transmission people about the fact our car wasn't fixed. The first two do not even come close to the last. Usually if a product I purchase goes bad or ends up being worthless I write it off as a learning experience and don't buy it again, When your transmission costs nearly $5,000 and it stops working....(cough) you let your husband take care of it?? That's what I usually default to. Recently Greg has been on light duty and cant get the time off to run the car over leaving me.... I did it though. I prayed for the courage and ability to communicate, stepped out and did it. They told me it wouldn't cost a thing and rented me a car for the night on their dime. Who knows what will come of tomorrow but for now I can honestly say I faced a fear and didn't turn back. HooRah to overcomming fears in 2011!! oh I need a nap.

T-ball and things

The things I like about living here are as follows
  1. free movie Wednesdays. Last week we got to go see a Shirley Temple on the big screen. It was SO fun and free. Oh how I love free.
  2. The library. I love most all libraries, but this one is a pip. They are very happy to see us and give great reading suggestions. They have never scolded the kids for anything and are genuinely glad to have them there.
  3. Sports. The peninsula takes sports very seriously, to me its nice. The structure has been very good for us.
  4. The GIANT u-pick blueberry farm.
  5. Quiet walks. Before it use to bother me when I walked past rows and rows of empty houses...now I find the quite peaceful. It helps to have my concealed to carry permit for that too *wink*
  6. Having nothing distracting me from spending time with my family
The list seems a bit short yet. The point is I am finding good things about living here and making it work

Why is it that women can feel a single gained pound but it takes a man seeing an old picture of himself skinny to realize his waistline is larger. Much of the opposite sex is still a mystery to me but I did figure out one new thing a few days ago.
I was in Ross with my boys while my daughter got ALL her hair cut off. Yeah I did emphasize that one for a reason. She got a pixie. Anyhow. I walked by a shirt that looked priettiesh and asked Mr. Dangers opinion. He studies is for a bit and sweetly says, "mom as long as YOU like it, that's what matters." I rolled my eyes and laughed. Who knew that manhood started so young! One mystery down three million to go.
