Nukka...how old? 4 something months.

Oh how she grows. Slowly the ugly brown hair is turning grey. Biggest challange...getting her to come when she is called. URGH.

so I looked across the road and saw.....

Lets just say I ran through the house looking for peoples phone numbers and then had to shove myself in the corner that gets reception until I contacted the right people. Apparently this is what happens when a water main breaks....oh my. It only ended up getting into the garage, thank goodness.

So I watched this thing....

Yesterday I watched an interesting 20/20 called the Medicated Child. I can't say I drew any new conclusions about medicating young children, only that although its hard some days dealing with the savages, I am grateful that medication has not played a role. The biggest part is I don't think I could live without them being themselves...even if that means helping them work through crying fits or reminding them that threats of bodily harm are inappropriate. You know what I mean?

Greatful

There are many things I am grateful for. Today the list topper is sunshine. I cant tell you how nice it is to look outside and see happiness slice through the clouds that have shrouded the coast for such a long stint. Last night as the hail pounded our bedroom window I was grateful for the home we have. Life is full of hard things. Many times as a mom I just muddle through the stuff I don't know how to handle. The 'am I doing this right' moments crop up fairly often in this family. If it weren't for a loving God and a great husband I would spend more time in doubt of what exactly I am doing.
Tomorrow we complete the foster parenting classes. It will be nice to have that huge chunk out of the way. Our house isn't foster kid approved yet, as we are still living off of press board floors. But I find it motivating to have a reason to finish. Yesterday I painted the entire downstairs minus the kitchen...and I still have to cut things in. First off I LOVE BEAR PAINT. Not only did it cover in the first coat, it went on smooth. Secondly, now that the walls don't look like they have dirt smeared all over them (rag painting) the house has a clean feel regardless of the floors. Greg finished the stairs a few days ago and it gave me a taste of what it will be like next month. I am so Grateful to have nice stairs!
Thanks giving is fast upon us and its nice to look around and see all the blessings. Its just like that light piercing through the clouds. A ray of hope amongst all the hardship.

school and Haiku

Ill admit it, I love sitting outside waiting with my girl for the bus to come. We chat about things and snuggle. Its one of my favorite things about the day. Stolen moments with your child individually can be more precious than a bucket full of days at the zoo.

falling rain hits me

I brace for changes

writing, foster classes, busy busy

Here we are on a Monday morning back to normal? Its been so fast and furious the past month I am not sure weather we are heads or tails. Even Thomas, my stable non-emotionally driven child, is struggling to keep it together.
Let me clue you in. Greg has been working a bunch to catch up and make overtime wages. Last week he did a three day followed by two very intense foster classes (will fill you in below) and then wanted to head up and see his grandparents. We missed each other so much that after much debate...I threw all five toothbrushes in the car and zoomed off with him. Most of you understand that I tend to be an eeny bit calculated on my decisions and dropping everything isn't usually my style. No matter. The whole house looked like the rapture happened right in the middle of a natural disaster and surprisingly I left it.
A very loud 7 hour car ride later we arrived. Cousins were seen and played with, grandparents were helped and treasured, then we turned around and came home. I left to my mom's house and Greg went back to work. This isn't even the half of it but seriously I am tired just talking about it.
Foster classes were enlightening. The orientation was full of 8 people total. Everyone seemed MORE than willing to take it on. It wasn't until the next class that the realization set in. We were the only people left on the island. No one else came. This made for shorter, condensed, and very intensive classes. Have you ever tried not to participate in a class full of two. We answered EVERY question. Much of it was stuff I already knew, but doing discussion for two whole days left me drained.
This weekend is the final two classes. I hope for the area's sake that more than us show up. Apparently there are no foster homes on the entire peninsula. I still don't know what will come of it all. Its just so big.
 Well that's it for now!

bandit

Here they are, our local bandits. Nukka is finally starting to get the idea that these little buggers are to be chased, not run away from. They aren't very skittish. I could easily grab them as they are ambling off the porch. Perhaps that is how the bigger one lost his tail. Some old lady out there has it hanging on the wall as a consolation prize.

Nukka at 4 months

Nukka is starting to fit in quite nicely. She still has a lot of puppy traits I am not fond of, but as you can see has adjusted to daily torture well. This last week we took a flash trip up to camp to visit aging grandparents as well as spend some much needed quality time with my sister. I was hesitant to let Nukka out of my sight and kept visualizing myself running after her screaming as her expensive little doggy butt disappeared into the woods forever. Fortunately she slipped right into the life of a fence less dog. By the last night she had gotten to the point of watching where we had gone and following.
